The Prosecutor Vetting Commission (Panel B) held today a public hearing for Marcel Dumbravan, Interim Chief Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and recently selected winner of the competition for the permanent leadership role. The Commission (Panel A) also heard his interim deputy, Mariana Leahu.

Following a thorough review of the documentation, as well as clarification of certain issues through rounds of written questions, Evaluation Panels A and B did not identify any concerns regarding the ethical or financial integrity of the two prosecutors that would warrant discussion during the hearing.

“I would like to thank the Commission for the significant effort invested in collecting and analyzing the information, and to acknowledge the work of the Commission’s Secretariat. I am also deeply grateful to my family – my parents, wife, and children – for their support during this challenging but important process. I wish courage and success to my colleagues who are also undergoing external evaluation,” stated Marcel Dumbravan.

In her remarks, Mariana Leahu emphasized the importance of the process for building public trust:

“I wish the Commission perseverance and patience in reviewing the large volume of data. To my fellow prosecutors still awaiting decisions, I encourage openness and cooperation. I truly hope this process marks a positive turning point for the prosecution service, and for a country that is rightfully expecting results,” said Mariana Leahu.

The next step in the process will be the issuance of evaluation reports, which will include recommendations to the Superior Council of Prosecutors. The Council will make the final decision on whether the candidates meet the requirements for promotion to their respective positions.
