On Friday, July 11, the Prosecutor Vetting Commission will conclude its series of hearings with the leadership of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Starting at 5:00 PM, Interim Deputy Chief Prosecutor Victor Muntean will appear before the Commission, preceded at 4:00 PM by his colleague from the same office, Prosecutor Gheorghe Caragia. The hearings will take place at the National Institute of Justice.
These public hearings are part of the external integrity evaluation of prosecutors, conducted under Law No. 252/2023 and the Commission’s internal regulations. Members of civil society, the media, and other interested individuals are welcome to attend.
Before the hearings, the Commission reviewed the evaluation files of the two prosecutors. These files include asset and interest declarations from the past five years, information about close relatives working in public institutions or the justice system, and answers to an ethics and integrity questionnaire. The Commission checked the information for possible issues related to financial and ethical integrity, using public databases and information provided by relevant institutions, including private companies.
To clarify certain discrepancies, the Commission sent three rounds of written questions to Prosecutor Muntean and two rounds to Prosecutor Caragia. During the public hearings, Commission members will ask additional questions about any remaining concerns. The prosecutors will have the opportunity to respond, submit evidence, and help complete their evaluation files.
