The Prosecutor Vetting Commission heard two prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) on Friday: Dumitru Robu, Acting Deputy Chief Prosecutor of PCCOCS, and Petru Iarmaliuc, a seconded prosecutor. Both are undergoing external evaluation under Law No. 252/2023, as prosecutors who previously served in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
In the case of Dumitru Robu, Panel B reviewed information relevant to the assessment of his ethical and financial integrity, collected from public authorities, public and private institutions, and open sources. During the evaluation, the subject received three rounds of clarification questions, as well as requests for additional information and supporting documents.
On 7 September, Panel B notified Dumitru Robu that the evaluation had been completed and that concerns regarding his ethical integrity had been identified and would be examined at a public hearing. On 14 September, Mr. Robu requested that part of the hearing be held in closed session concerning his role in the investigation and prosecution of a criminal case involving a public official. The Panel granted the request to ensure the protection of public order.
During the public part of the hearing, Panel B members asked questions regarding the receipt of funds from Sergiu Șeptelici, former Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Odesa, as well as a potential conflict of interest related to the appointment of Elena Cazacov as Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
At the end of the hearing, Dumitru Robu expressed his support for colleagues undergoing external evaluation and wished them courage and success.
In the case of Petru Iarmaliuc, Panel A reviewed information from multiple sources relevant to the assessment of his ethical and financial integrity. During the evaluation, the subject received three rounds of clarification questions and provided responses to them.
During the public hearing, Petru Iarmaliuc stated: “Let us exercise sound judgment in everything we do, especially when it comes to prosecutors who have taken on their profession honestly and responsibly. Everything passes. What remains is the action taken with sound judgment.”
