During 9 – 11 October 2024, the Prosecutor Vetting Commission will hear five prosecutors vying for membership in the Superior Council of Prosecutors’ (SCP) Selection and Evaluation Board and Discipline and Ethics Board. All five candidates confirmed their attendance.
The hearings will take place at the National Institute of Justice (1, S. Lazo Street), according to the following schedule:
Individuals, civil society, and media representatives may attend the hearings by notifying the Commission at the email address press@vettingmd.org, by Tuesday, 8 October, at 14:00. Notifications should specify the participant’s name, surname, and the represented organization, if applicable.
Video recording, photography, or live broadcasting are not allowed throughout the hearings. The video recordings in Romanian and English will be available on the Commission’s website and YouTube channel.
The hearings represent one of the main stages of the external evaluation where candidates have the possibility to provide clarifications on certain identified doubts. In the event of candidate’s refusal to attend the hearings, the evaluation is completed based on the gathered information.
The Prosecutor Vetting Commission was tasked to evaluate 32 candidates for membership in the SCP’s Boards. To date, the Commission:
- Issued decisions on 15 candidates.
- 3 Decisions are pending after the hearing.
- Scheduled 10 candidates for the hearings in October 2024.
- Continue analysis of data on 4 candidates.
