The Prosecutor Vetting Commission announces a new public hearing as part of the ongoing external vetting process. On Monday, July 7, at 4:00 PM, prosecutor Andrei Balan, currently serving within the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, will appear before the Commission at the National Institute of Justice.

Ahead of the hearing, the Commission reviewed the prosecutor’s evaluation file, which includes asset and interest declarations for the past five years; a list of close relatives working in the judiciary, prosecution, or public institutions; and a completed ethical integrity questionnaire. This information was verified from both financial and ethical integrity perspectives, using public databases and data provided by relevant institutions, including commercial banks, insurance companies, travel agencies, and other economic operators.

To clarify certain inconsistencies, prosecutor Balan was asked to respond to three rounds of follow-up questions from the Commission. During the upcoming hearing, he will have the opportunity to present further explanations and supporting documentation to address the issues identified.

The evaluation is conducted in accordance with Law No. 252/2023 on the external evaluation of judges and prosecutors, as well as the Commission’s Rules of Procedure. As established by law, evaluation files are randomly assigned to one of the two panels of the Commission, each composed of three members, both national and international.
