On Tuesday, July 22, the Prosecutors’ Vetting Commission held a public hearing with Deputy Prosecutor General Sergiu Russu, as part of the external evaluation process mandated by Law No. 252/2023 on the assessment of judges and prosecutors.

During the session, Mr. Russu was invited to add any new information to his evaluation file and to confirm that the documents he had previously submitted were still accurate. He described the process as complex, given the large amount of information that must be provided by candidates and carefully reviewed by the Commission. He also encouraged other prosecutors to cooperate fully with the process.

“My colleagues shouldn’t hesitate when answering the Commission’s questions. The more honest and accurate the answers, the easier it will be to complete the process,” he said, wishing the Commission success in meeting its legal deadlines.

The Evaluation Panel will now draft a report summarizing the key facts, reasoning, and a conclusion on whether the prosecutor has passed the evaluation. The decision must be unanimous, and the report must be finalized within 30 working days.
