The Prosecutor Vetting Commission announced today the outcome of the integrity review of prosecutor Andrei Balan from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. In its Evaluation Report, the Commission recommends that he should not pass the external evaluation.
The evaluation process revealed that the prosecutor does not meet the ethical and financial integrity criteria set forth in Law No. 252/2023. The Commission identified concerns regarding his financial integrity, which he failed to clarify either through written responses or during the public hearing. The Evaluation Report has been submitted today both to the subject of the evaluation and to the Superior Council of Prosecutors, which will decide within 30 days whether to accept the Commission’s recommendation. The report will be made public in accordance with the requirements of Law No. 252/2023 – within three days after the expiration of the appeal period for the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
