The Prosecutor Vetting Commission filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Justice today, June 26, 2026, challenging the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) passing Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Vasile Plevan.

The appeal challenges the legality of the SCP’s decision to reject the re-evaluation report issued by Panel A, which recommended that the prosecutor fail the evaluation.

Initial evaluation procedure

Following an assessment of Prosecutor Vasile Plevan’s ethical and financial integrity, Panel A issued a report in January 2026 recommending that he fail the external evaluation. The Panel concluded that the prosecutor did not meet the ethical integrity criteria established by Law No. 252/2023.

In February 2026, the SCP rejected the report and ordered a resumed evaluation.

Resumed evaluation procedure

As part of the re-evaluation process, Panel A reviewed the issues identified by the SCP, conducted a second hearing with the prosecutor, and revised the methodology used to assess his handling of a criminal case. At the end of April 2026, the Panel reached the same conclusion and issued a new report proposing that the prosecutor fail the evaluation, finding that he did not meet the ethical integrity criteria.
