The Prosecutor Vetting Commission heard anti-corruption prosecutor Victor Cazacu for the third time as part of a re-evaluation procedure ordered by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) after it rejected the Commission’s January 2026 report finding that he had failed the evaluation.

“I am confident that the Commission’s final assessment will reflect the objective facts of the case and that its decision will rest on a solid legal foundation,” the prosecutor stated during the public hearing.

As previously reported, on January 16, 2026, the Commission issued a report concluding that the prosecutor failed the evaluation, finding that he did not meet the financial integrity criterion established under Law No. 252/2023. The report was approved by a majority of the Commission members, while two members issued separate opinions.

As part of the evaluation process, prosecutor Victor Cazacu had previously appeared before the Commission on two occasions. The first hearing was conducted by Panel B, while the second was held before the full Commission after Panel B failed to secure the unanimous vote required to approve the evaluation report. During the second hearing, Commission members requested additional clarifications regarding discrepancies between income and expenses, assets owned, and loans obtained.
