Panel B of the Prosecutor Vetting Commission held public hearings on Friday regarding two prosecutors: Ion Ursu, a prosecutor with the ChiΘinΔu Prosecutor’s Office, who was evaluated in his capacity as a former seconded prosecutor to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, and Alexandru Gaina, a prosecutor with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
In the case of Ion Ursu, the Panel reviewed relevant information concerning his ethical and financial integrity, as well as his responses submitted during two rounds of written questions. Following its assessment, the Panel found no concerns regarding his compliance with the applicable integrity criteria. In the absence of any new information, the Panel will proceed to adopt an evaluation report recommending that the prosecutor successfully pass the vetting process.

I recognize the considerable amount of information and documentation that was collected and carefully reviewed throughout the process. I also wish to thank the individuals and institutions that provided me with the responses and documents I submitted to the Commission in a timely manner. During Mr. Gaina’s hearing, Panel members asked questions regarding the acquisition of two real estate properties and two motor vehicles, as well as a discrepancy between income and expenditures identified over several years during the evaluation period.
Throughout the hearing, the prosecutor had the opportunity to respond to the Panel’s questions and to submit documents and other evidence in support of his position. At the prosecutor’s request, a witness also participated in the hearing, providing explanations in response to questions from both the Panel and the prosecutor regarding the methodology used to determine the value of certain real estate properties.
“I place my trust in the Commission’s professionalism, impartiality, and fairness,” said Alexandru Gaina at the conclusion of the hearing.
In Mr. Gaina’s case, the Panel will review the explanations, documents, and evidence presented during the hearing before adopting its evaluation report.
