The Secretariat is the operational backbone of the Prosecutor Vetting Commission. While it does not have legal personality, it functions independently from any public authority and is fully dedicated to supporting the Commission’s mandate. Its primary role is to provide administrative, technical, and logistical support to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the vetting process.

The Secretariat is led by a designated Head, who reports directly to the Chair of the Commission and is responsible for implementing decisions made by the Commission and its evaluation panels. Staff within the Secretariat are contracted with the support of development partners and report exclusively to the Commission.

The Secretariat plays a vital role in the vetting process by:

  • collecting, verifying, and analyzing relevant information;
  • preparing materials for Commission members;
  • managing official correspondence and documentation;
  • coordinating schedules and facilitating access to necessary information.

Access to sensitive information is strictly controlled. Secretariat staff are bound by confidentiality and are required to comply with clear rules of conduct and conflict-of-interest policies, as set out in law and the Commission’s internal regulations.

In short, the Secretariat is essential to maintaining the transparency, efficiency, and integrity of the prosecutor vetting process.
